The famous brick building brand unveiled a new box set inspired by female trailblazers.
Next week will mark the release of a LEGO box set celebrating women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The set, aptly named Women of NASA, features figurines of Margaret Hamilton, Sally Ride, Mae Jemison, and Nancy Grace Roman. All of whom have made groundbreaking contributions to NASA and space exploration.
Margaret Hamilton
Famed computer programmer Hamilton led the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory. She developed the building blocks of software engineering.
Sally Ride and Mae Jemison
Ride was the first American woman in space and Jemison was the first African-American woman in space.
Nancy Grace Roman
Often referred to as “Mother of Hubble,” Roman was key to the design and construction of the Hubble Space Telescope.
There are three different builds in every box featuring each woman’s various areas of expertise. There is a Hubble Space Telescope for Roman, a Launchpad and Space Shuttle Challenger with three different rocket phases for Ride and Jemison and books that symbolise the different components of the Apollo Guidance Computer for Hamilton.
The sets will come with information about each of the LEGO figurines and the projects they worked on. LEGO has done similar projects featuring female scientists and engineers, having released the box set Research Institute” three years ago. Designed by Dr. Ellen Koojijman, it received praise worldwide.
The designers hope to inspire younger generations of girls to develop an interest in these fields and, like the four women immortalised in LEGO, strive to reach for the stars and beyond. The LEGO sets will be available for purchase on November First.
