CALL FOR PAPERS
Demeter Press is seeking submissions for an edited volume entitled
Global Perspectives on Motherhood, Mothering,
and Masculinities
Co-Editors: Tola Olu Pearce and Andrea Moraes
Critical research on mothers acknowledges both the oppressive and empowering aspects that affect women’s lives. Increasingly masculinities have been similarly scrutinized. This volume will draw attention to the powerful, but often-°©-subtle linkages between these two identities, and examine the ways in which generational relationships and co-constructions vary across the globe. Cross-cultural and historical contexts reveal the different values, expectations, institutions and events that shape the identities of both parties as well as the significant differences existing at the micro, meso and macro levels of societies. Nonetheless, these two identities remain at the very core of individual lives and sense of nationhood. The edited volume is concerned with the way many dimensions of relationships between motherhood/mothering and masculinities are presently being theorized, re-examined, made visible and even challenged. This is an interdisciplinary volume that welcomes essays on any developmental stage or dimension of life.
We welcome varied approaches including, but not limited to:
Co-constructions of motherhood and masculinities; Generational conceptions of motherhood/mothering and masculinities; Historical perspectives; Indigenous perspectives; Intersectional issues and influences; Cross-Cultural/transnational examinations; The feminization of employment and masculinities; Mothering and masculinities among sex workers; Motherhood/Mothering and masculinities: the Diasporic experience; Auto-ethnographic examinations; Religious discourses; The impact of incarceration on motherhood/mothering and masculinities; Mothering, food and masculinities; Maternal activism and constructions of masculinities.
