
The Spirit of the United Nations Award” is given to a person whose work is an expression of the core principles, spirit, and vision on which the United Nations was founded. It is awarded to one person each year from each of the following categories (1) A Diplomat (2) A UN Staff and (3) An NGO/Civil Society Organization Leader, and (4) A Youth Advocate. The Award Ceremony will be held October 23, in NYC, and is coordinated by the NGO Committee on Spirituality, Values & Global Concerns. Ms. Herman was nominated by former UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative, Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury. Ambassador Chowdhury was President of the UN Security Council at the time of passage of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace & Security.
