A Coordinated Prostitution Strategy
and a summary of responses to Paying the Price
Paying the Price, a public consultation paper on
prostitution was published in July 2004. Over 850 responses were received from a
wide range of individuals and organisations with an interest in the issues
associated with prostitution. Together with information from relevant research,
from consultative seminars and from specially commissioned focus groups, the
responses to Paying the Price have been used as a basis for the development of a
coordinated strategy for prostitution.
The Government has published the responses to Paying the
Price, together with the coordinated strategy for prostitution
An updated Regulatory Impact Assessment is also available
The coordinated strategy for prostitution provides a
framework for communities to tackle street prostitution and all forms of
commercial sexual exploitation, through preventative measures; tackling demand;
developing routes out for those in prostitution; and ensuring justice by
cracking down on groomers, traffickers and other abusers. Where prostitution is
an issue, local Crime and Disorder Partnerships will have the task of working
with local communities to developing coherent and comprehensive measures as part
of the Crime and disorder and drugs strategy.
The key objectives of the strategy are to:
-
challenge the view that street prostitution is
inevitable and here to stay -
achieve an overall reduction in street
prostitution -
improve the safety and quality of life of those
communities affected by prostitution -
reduce all forms of commercial sexual
exploitation
Further information, and hard copies of the strategy, are
